Susan Sarandon Bio
It was after the 1968 Democratic convention, and there was a casting call for a film featuring a range of parts for young people who had disrupted convention. Joe (1970) was selected for auditions in New York by two recent Catholic University graduates. Chris Sarandon, an actor who was trained, was rejected. His wife Susan was offered a role as Susan Compton. She plays the daughter of Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). Dad Bill kills Susan’s drug dealer boyfriend. Then, Joe (Peter Boyle) is a bigot who works in an assembly line and has a collection of guns, becomes friends with Susan. Five years later Sarandon creates the film. Janet is a transvestite who becomes entangled with the mysterious Dr. Frank n Furter (1975). Sarandon was a fierce advocate for Annie in Bull Durham (1988) more than 15 year after she began her career. She flew at her own expense from Rome and Italy from Italy to Los Angeles. Sarandon said that "It was such a great script... it removed a number of myths and challenged America's definition of success". "I went to the studio together with Kevin Costner and shook hands with his gorgeous assistants before boarding the plane. Tim Robbins (1988), her Bull Durham supporting actor, had already had two sons by the year 1992 which made Sarandon in a position that she could leave home and take on difficult roles. The result was four Academy Award nominations in the 1990s, and the best actress award for Dead Man Walking (1995). Her first Academy Award nomination was for Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980).
