Ronny Chieng
Ronny Xin Yi
Chieng, born on 21 November, 1985 in Malaysia, is an actor and comedian. Chieng
is currently an executive correspondent for The Daily Show on Comedy Central.
He also created and plays the lead role in the sitcom Ronny Chieng
International Student, that debuted on ABC Australia (Australia) in 2017.
Chieng was born into an Malaysian Chinese family. He was born in Johor Bahru.
Chieng grew up both in Singapore and in the United States, living in
Manchester, New Hampshire from 1989 to 1994. Chieng appeared with Trevor Noah
in 2013 at a comedy festival in Melbourne, Australia. Chieng was offered the
Daily Show's reporter role two years after. He was named one the 10 Comics to
Watch in the July issue of Variety. In October of 2016, Chieng joined The Daily
Show to discuss an Jesse Watters Fox News segment that was widely viewed as
racist. Chieng offers a scathing critique of the segment on the conservative
network. Chieng also visited the city's Chinatown and Chinatown, where Watters
had mocked residents, and conducted more respectful interviews with residents
in Mandarin and Cantonese. The video went viral and received coverage in the

Singapore Sea Scout. Though he's lived in Australia for more than 10 years, he
still doesn't possess permanent residency or citizenship in Australia. In 2018,
Chieng joked that he was an apologist on the Daily Show, but later , in an
interview, he said that Chieng was "100 per cent not scared of dogs".
